2020.10.22 23:49 Nameless_Archon Thirty-Eight Days of Dwarf: Day 22 (Extra Life 2020!) 7pm EDT!

(Maybe I should start a proper militia, you think?)
----------------------------------------Who's this guy?----------------------------------------
Hey guys!
I'm Nameless_Archon, and I provide tutorials on how to play Dwarf Fortress every year (health permitting) while I try to raise money for sick kids.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What in the name of the glowing pits is this about?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is time to return to our roots, and so we shall: Thirty. Eight. Days. Of. Dwarf.
Starting on 10/1 and proceeding through the Extra Life 2019 Game Day event on 11/7, I'm going to stream and teach what little I know.
Dwarves. Every. Single. Day.
----------------------------------------But why?----------------------------------------
I like to do things when there's more than one reason to do them:
-------------------------So how's this going to work?-------------------------
We've started out like I usually do - streaming a basic, sustainable fortress. However, the reality of the situation is that thirty-three days of Basic Base Building 101 is going to probably bore the pants off people (including me) and I don't really want things to be boring. So we're going to have to do a few things along the way to try to spice things up, and along the way likely reveal that I'm just an average player like everyone else. (Dwarves dying of starvation and frostbite on a glacier? Likelier than you think!)
Basically, I'll stream in the evenings most days for a few hours. On Saturdays and Sundays, we'll generally run a little longer, but I'm going to stream every day until 11/7 even if it means I have to get up at 3am to do it. On 11/7, we're going to culminate with a 24-hour long livestream, as part of the worldwide Extra Life charity event.
I don't use Twitter, Facebook, etc. and people may want to donate to Extra Life 2020, even if they're not supporting my efforts directly. Feel free to share my donations link, or to direct people to the charity's main page.
--------------------------So what's in it for viewers?---------------------------
Well, aside from helping to support my local children's hospital (good vibes, ho!) I'll be pushing out tutorial game(s) live on stream as part of the event. Your donations are a spur in that direction applied to my backside. You can even attend the event with me, since I'll be broadcasting live on my stream the whole time!
...but if that's not enough for you?
Anonymous or not, everyone will know you're supporting kids that need it.
If you're not naming him something awful, it'll even happen. You're welcome to request a trade for the dwarf, if I have one suitable to match it! If we run more than one fort, donator dwarves will show up in all forts after the one where you donated!
SEVERAL DONATORS HAVE CLAIMED A NAMED MIGRANT FOR ALL 38 DAYS. Are you next?
If none are available, I'll have to use a migrant. (We call this 'Early cat catches the dwarf'. Move fast.) As above, if you donate on the first fort of our event, we'll put that same dwarf into the starting seven every fort thereafter!
SOME OF THE STARTING SEVEN HAVE ALREADY BEEN CLAIMED! Will yours be next?
Want me to embark on a reanimating evil biome with a necromancer next door? It's your call. I'll save the current stream fort, and start a new one on the spot with settings as close to your request as I can manage on the fly, and run with it until it dies or I do. If someone else flips the script on you before I finish, you can either donate again to flip if back or wait for their fort to exhaust before I resume yours. Your choice. (We call this one 'Last dwarf gets the sock.')
Some limits on this are required for sanity's sake. Let's talk first.
At some point, I'll get back to the stream fort, but for a truly generous donation, I'm 100% willing to give up some time and show off anything you'd like, live and on the spot. You can find a link to my Steam profile (which contains a list of potential games I could probably get set up for streaming) here if you're considering this. (And if it's something we can do multiplayer, we can even try that too, which would be a stream first.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wait....Thirty days of tutorials for Dwarf Fortress as part of a charity drive?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thirty-eight days, actually. It was the wife's idea - she suggested that you folks might like to get a newer version of my original tutorial, and that this might be a good avenue to combine hardcore Dwarf Fortress fanatics, who are already a generous and supporting community, with a charitable cause to support. I didn't have much luck finding a flaw in her reasoning, so I bit the bullet and advertised it at work, too, despite my trepidation regarding drawing personal attention there. (Last year, they contributed only a sixth of our total collection, because the players and viewers - people like you and I - were far more generous!)
------------------------- New and Uncertain Players: ----------------------
We'll be putting the newest version of the starter pack and Dwarf Fortress through its paces as we (attempt to) start a new tutorial series for v 0.47.04. (Note: If there's an update and it seems relatively bug free, I'll try for the newer version, but I'm aiming this at newer players, so trying to ride the cutting edge isn't really in the cards.)
Past demonstrations (From v.34 to present) have included glaciers, deserts, sites with necromancer towers adjacent (like Day 1 this year...) as well as discussion on how to influence worldgen to get what you want. Our first one will be a more sedate embark, designed and chosen for relatively newer players, and we'll start with worldgen as though we're looking at a fresh install.
Goal:
My goal for "Tutorial Night" is to walk new players through an embark using the DF Starter Pack. (Explicit thanks to PeridexisErrant and others who I admire for their dedication, which is studded with perseverance and ringed with bands of my gratitude! Without those efforts, a tutorial for installing and configuring everything for the game and its add-ons would be a sizable task unto itself. I've actually devoted many hours of stream to demonstrating it 'the hard way'!)
Along the way, I'll provide examples of the setup and tools I use to play Dwarf Fortress, as a guidepost for new players.
What I'm really trying to do is give new players a reference point they can come back to on how to set up a world, embark on a site, and stand a reasonable chance of employing a fairly basic and standard design to build a workable fortress wherever they may need to start one.
Stream Info:
The channel rules are simple: Respect Wheaton's Law and you'll be fine. Just don't expect the content of the broadcast to be 100% suitable for children; Sorry, kids. I'm much too low-brow for a guaranteed clean broadcast. Get your parents' permission, etc etc.
If you have questions you might like answered with a demonstration, and not simply a quick post in the weekly questions thread, I'm your guy. I'll do my best to demonstrate just about anything you can think up - aquifers, megaprojects and magma pistons aside. (Minecarts may get covered, but don't expect anything computational or timer based - I'm a casual player, not a dwarven mechanical engineer.)
You can view the stream here, as well as on the donations page for Extra Life.
Later Goals:
At some point in this fortress, I'll walk players through my 'most commonly used' tools in DFHack and in the utilities that come packaged in the DF Starter Pack and how I use them to construct a simple, basic, and tightly run fortress that can support as many dwarves as my PC can haul, defend itself against all comers, and handle just about anything. I also will demonstrate Quickfort at some point for those who've never taken advantage of it!
We'll certainly touch on Dwarf Therapist, and discuss how I use it to control the behavior and organization of my ants dwarves, including a demonstration of custom professions in action. Sound will be provided by Soundsense so that you're not listening to me play in silence during any lulls, and the off-topic interaction between the audience and myself tends toward the lively (and often ribald).
New players, your questions (no matter how 'silly' you may think they are) are 100% welcome, as they're the whole point to the broadcast! Join us and ask them!
If you can't make it (or are not willing to brave my often vulgar displays of unsuitability) and still have questions you can't seem to figure out, post them in the DF Bi-Weekly Questions Thread for this week and I'll do my best to help you overcome your obstacles, if the expert players haven't gotten there first!
(Obligatory: Yesss... Join usss... Join the Dark Side... We have cookies!)
------------------------ More advanced players: ------------------------------
On that note, experienced players who want to follow along are certainly welcome (and often manage to teach me a thing or two, directly or not) but the main thrust of the stream will be to help new players get over the introductory hump to start playing at a deeper level, so you may find yourself paying less attention to the pace of the stream and more attention to your fellow audience members. I do love having a few veterans show up, though, because my fortress designs always get better when I'm shown a method I've never used!
--------------------------------Parting Words----------------------------------------
Please don't go. The children need you.
Please donate if you are able.
On behalf of Riley and Extra Life: Thank you, in advance, for your generosity!

2020.10.22 16:55 malte2505 Need help with high-end Ryzen build

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Mostly gaming, streaming, VR, and some video editing in the near future. I also like to have multiple programs open at once, like, a video playing at my other screen, screen recorder etc.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
I don't really have a specific budget, but I'm just looking to get the best of the cheapest that will run my other components properly. And if that is not good enough, then I'm okay with spending a little extra.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
As soon as the Ryzen 5900x gets released.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Motherboard, case, storage & an AIO. Here is a list of what I have already found: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XW7JVc
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
I live in Denmark. The only webshops that you can purchase specs from are https://www.proshop.dk, https://www.komplett.dk/, and https://www.computersalg.dk/.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I will be using my 2 monitors (AOC G2790VXA 27), my Logitech G29 + shifter, keyboard, mouse, headphones, and my Valve Index. I will try and find a good G-Sync 1440p 144hz monitor on Black Friday.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
I will use XMP for the ram, and probably some light overclocking to the CPU.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
I would like a 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD for Windows and programs, a SATA SSD games & a HDD for storage. I will most likely make a RAID 1 setup in the future.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
ATX, black, window, RBG, room for a 360mm radiator at the top
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No, I don't need Windows.
Extra info or particulars:
Here is what I need the components to be able to do:
ATX case: - Can support a 360mm radiator at the top - Have room for 3 fans at the front & 1 at the back (it would be nice if some of them came included (and are RGB)) - Have some USB ports and stuff at the front/top/side/whatever - Have a glass panel - Mesh front - Preferably black
ATX Motherboard: - Have the x570 chipset - Have 6+ USB ports, with 2+ of them being USB 3.0 - Have enough fan headers for 3 front fans, 3 fans for the AIO & 1 fan at the back - Good VRMs - Must be able to support my ram, which will run at 3600 on "XMP". (Would be great if it has Bluetooth too, but it's not needed).
Storage: - A 500GB M.2 NVMe drive for Windows and programs - A 1TB SATA SSD for games - A 500GB HDD for storage
AIO: - RGB (sorry) - 360mm radiator
I really hope someone will help me. I have saved up to buy this for several years, and I really don't wanna go out there and purchase something that I find out, later on, is trash.

2020.10.22 05:25 not-moses Maybe the Russians really =DO= what they've been Accused of

Hey! IDK, but...
Coming from how it's done in cults of all kinds, I wrote a piece called "Divide & Conquer" and put it in my "blogpile" at this link about six months ago. Someone on another sub just informed me they got a Code 404 on it, so I went to look. I didn't pull that piece. So NOW, I guess we'll see how long this piece stays up.
(For those living in caves for the past several years, a lot of noise has been made about agents traced to the Russian military hacking Western political websites. The NSA just issued another paper on that this week.)
The full title of the article I wrote was "Divide & Conquer" -- Russian Political Manipulation in the Last Century (1920 to 2019).
It was partly at least about the use of emotion-triggering disinformation to polarize the American and English left and right and keep them stuck in perpetual Reciprocal Reactivity in their own minds.
Which is similar to what those at and near the tops of various Cultic Pyramids have done for several millennia to scramble the brains of those on the middle levels by framing all reality in "eitheor," "all-or-nothing," "all-right-or-all-wrong," "all-moral-or-all-evil" terms.
And moreover, pretty much exactly how CoS founder LRH reportedly described it in several memos dating back to well before the SO.

2020.10.21 00:53 thecatdaddysupreme Can we appreciate national championships for a second?

My all-time favorite dbfz spectating was season zero NLBC/HoC. Everyone was discovering the game and hyped for all the supers and cinematics (cell scream obviously), rivalries and ascensions were just beginning. HGG didn’t have a poster at NLBC yet; Yipes/Chris matrix were the resident dbfz commentators for team spooky.
Watching Yipes and Bum commentate mamba vs DKS and HGG vs amini felt fresh out of the glory days. “Wake up buttons was not a healthy breakfast,” the tried and true “tree bark 14’s!!” and “CALL MEEEEEE” on an official bandai stream. “Pardon me, bandai, but that was bussass.” So much passion over online gameplay of all things. West coast showed up too with some entertaining commentary via the WNF crew, and reynald vs chrisg was hilarious.
Covid fucking sucks in a lot of ways (dating apps been fye tho fr fr) but national champs has been a diamond in the rough for me, and chrisg rq’ing the whole tourney was the cherry on top. Stoked for future weeks.
Anyway, just wanted to chime in with some positivity and appreciation for what bandai namco threw together. Obviously we all want better netcode but you gotta deal with the hand you’re dealt.
Hope y’all have a good week

2020.10.20 22:33 Nameless_Archon Thirty-Eight Days of Dwarf: Day 20 (Extra Life 2020!) 7pm EDT!

(ONWARD!)

2020.10.20 19:53 MoonlightMasquerade HOME;RUN MV Theory

So our boys SLAYED in this comeback and I am in love with the concept so much!! Seventeen in suits gets my heart fluttering ~
After watching the MV a couple of times (and being in awe of how good it is), this theory occurred to me:
The diamond represents stardom and CARATS; the MV is all about SEVENTEEN’s journey as idols and their relationship with CARATS.
I’m going to put this disclaimer up front: these are just my theories and other interpretations are totally valid. I love all thirteen boys, and I think they have really good relationships with each other! So if I bring up past incidents or controversies, it’s from a place of love. I’m not trying to stir drama or criticize them. This essay is a love letter to them because I personally find the MV so meaningful. Also, I’ve been a Carat less than a year (this is my second comeback, fourth comeback if you count Japan releases) so please tell me if I’ve made mistakes ~
S.Coups and the baseball
When the MV starts, Seungcheol’s hit a wall, literally. (Additional symbolism regarding the wall to come later.)
Why? If you think back to the start of Coups’ career, he was training with NU’EST but he didn’t get to debut with them; he hit a wall at the start when it came to debut. Then, the diamond hits him: Seventeen comes along (and with that, Carats) and it changes his life, launching him to the public eye and stardom.
But at the same time, the diamond hits him on the head and knocks him out for a while, and this is kinda symbolic of his hiatus last year. He took a break because of his anxiety; anxiety caused by knowing how much the fans love him, and not wanting to let them down. The impact of idol life made him feel so pressured that he needed to take a step back.
But! At the end, Coups picks up the diamond again; he’s ready to resume his journey, and perform for Carats!!
Mingyu, Wonwoo, and Seokmin at the bar
The scene cuts from Coups to the boys at the bar, and I can think of a few reasons for the choices!
Firstly, Mingyu. Gyu’s the one who gave the shoutout to Coups during their daesang acceptance speech while he was on his hiatus. That was a huge moment in their careers - recognition not just from their diamond fans, but also from the general public.
Secondly, Wonwoo. He’s had his own struggles with anxiety and not feeling good enough too, and he’s shared before that he wonders what he has to make fans love him. (Also, I love the Wonwoo-Coups gamer-bro bond ~)
Then we have DK, and I feel like the choice of DK here is because he’s a leader too, even if we forget that often. Back when it was announced DK would be leading BSS, he cited Coups as his inspiration for being a good leader; he’s watching Coups’ example.
(I’m not totally certain about the symbolism here though tbh)
Hoshi, Jun, and Dino’s dance
Our performance unit leader’s the one who first appears and starts dancing; he’s the choreographer, and the one that the members look to when performing!
(Other than that, I don’t think there’s a lot of deep symbolism; it’s just a fun dance break lol. The dance breaks are all just cool choreo moments ~)
Vernon and the gambling den
This scene basically focuses on Hansol, who’s just chilling and vibing while everyone else is fighting.
The background of this set is some sort of gambling den, and we see chips and cards flying around. What do people associate with gambling? Money. Think back to the early days of Vernon’s career; he was involved in Show Me The Money, and it caused a ton of controversy and undeserved hate.
Yet, in the midst of all this chaos, Hansol’s just rapping and vibing, because our boy rose above all the hate that was directed at him to become an amazing rapper!! Also he’s just so chill all the time and we love him for it ~ that’s how he gets hold of the diamond in the midst of this chaos!!!
(also, he passes it to Minghao. Why does he pass it to Hao? idk can’t really explain. Any ideas?)
The8 and Joshua in the car
For this scene, we switch to black and white, which kinda shows that there’s a certain nostalgia here.
Minghao’s holding the diamond and looking at it carefully, with a certain distance. As we all know, Hao’s someone who’s very realistic; he reminds us of the distance between idols and fans, and doesn’t do any of the flirty playing around. But it doesn’t mean that he loves and treasures us less! It’s because he cares about Carats that he wants us to remember to lead our own lives and focus on ourselves too ~
Meanwhile, Shua’s driving the car. Why the deliberate choice of Hao and Shua? They’re the ones who had to travel to get that diamond; they left their homes to come to Korea to become stars and in doing so, earn the fans’ love. It’s been a long, hard road, and I respect them so much for taking it.
(What about Jun and Hansol? I’m sure some of you will ask. Hansol isn’t really foreign line; he was born and raised in Korea, there wasn’t any travelling. As for Jun, he was a highly-acclaimed child star with his own fans and career before he travelled to Korea to become a part of Seventeen, so he wasn't really chasing stardom.) [edit: comments pointed out Hansol wasn't born in Korea, thanks for letting me know!]
Dino and Wonwoo on the train
After the theatre dance break, our maknae gets on that train and promptly starts searching everywhere for the diamond.
Why? In my opinion, Chan’s criminally underappreciated in the fandom; he’s so so incredible (just look at his rap + visuals here!), but he just doesn’t get enough love from the fans; that’s why he’s trying so hard to get that diamond! (also, give Dino more respect yall, he deserves it)
Wonwoo’s also searching for the diamond. Remember the analysis earlier: he doesn’t think that he has much presence or charisma to attract fans. He’s looking for the love and fans too.
Mingyu and Jeonghan on the train
Two things to note before we break down the scene: they’re probably the ones with the diamond at the start of this scene (since they’re the thieves in the newspaper), but by the next scene, they’ve somehow lost the diamond to Wonwoo.
Firstly, we see that Gyu and Hannie both cover their faces. They’re largely considered to be two of the best visuals in the group. Thus, I believe this represents a fear of theirs; that without their looks, they’ll lose the fans’ love.
Secondly, they run away from the train (likely leaving the diamond behind). Both Jeonghan and Mingyu have taken time away from the public eye lately. Hannie suffered from dizziness because he pushed himself so hard to perform for us, not wanting to disappoint Carats, until his body forced him to take a break. Gyu basically disappeared from view during the Itaewon controversy and all the hate he was getting. Thus, them running away from the train symbolises them taking a break from the idol life.
Wonwoo and Minghao examining the diamond
Wonwoo has the diamond now, and he’s got it under a magnifying glass and he’s examining it closely.
The magnifying glass gives you the chance to see something’s flaws. With the recent Curry incident, Wonwoo’s seen the ugly side of stardom (personal take: yes he messed up, but I do think it was an honest mistake). He looks at it, he sees the flaws, and he puts it down; he’s examined it for flaws and he needs to take some time away from being an idol (see: him basically going off the radar for a while there).
Why does Minghao grab the diamond and run off with it? A ton of things happened to SVT in recent months, which are largely referenced in chronological order: Coups’ hiatus > Jeonghan’s hiatus > Itaewon incident > Curry incident > The Tag and Minghao getting a ton of attention.
Hao really shone so much in The Tag for his cool attitude; he got talked about everywhere, GoSe views shot up, and new Carats were converted! (The attention on Hao also helped the controversies to start dying down, because the news had something new and interesting to talk about.) Beyond GoSe, Hao's just been getting a ton of attention lately - Falling Down, more screen time, and more lines! (I've been so bias wrecked by him it's not even funny.) He really be running off with the diamond and all the love from the fandom that he deserves ~
(personally, I really hope that The Tag will be the start of a nice, peaceful period, without any incidents for our diamond boys ~)
Seungkwan and the pool table
After a fun bowling alley dance break, the diamond lands on the pool table and people start fighting over it before Seungkwan gets fed up and throws the diamond at the camera.
The moment I saw this scene, I was reminded of the fight in OFD (aka probably the only time SVT has really, actually fought onscreen). The thing about shows is that so much is done for “entertainment”. In the media industry, there’s a need to create drama to keep viewers watching and people interested. It’s an ugly, toxic part of stardom. I really, really hated that part of OFD; how hard the PDs pushed the boys to keep things entertaining, causing the hyper-competitive spirit and all the drama, was just too much for me.
But in OFD, Seungkwan worked really hard to reconcile the two teams, and to me that’s Seungkwan. He’s the one who’s good at variety and a drama queen, but he cares about the others so much. He’s not going to let stardom and the need to be entertaining actually, really affect their relationships. If the need to put on a show for the camera is creating conflict? Break the camera.
(also, pay attention to the newspaper at the end of this segment: the diamond is literally named the Carat Star - doesn’t it make sense that it symbolises CARATs and stardom?)
Jun, Woozi, and the brick wall
We’re back where the MV started at the brick wall, which I believe to be the brick wall from the L&R MV.
Jun just sees the diamond and… stops and blinks. Honestly the expression on his face is peak comedy right there and I feel like that’s so Jun. Thoughtful, quiet (at least on camera), observant, and just… intensely and effortlessly funny?! I’ve always felt that he’s someone who’s so incredibly gifted - visuals, vocals, dance - and he needs more love ~ (oops my ult bias is showing)
On the other hand, Woozi goes up there, grabs his bat, and breaks the glass to get the diamond. This has a couple of interpretations for me. As Seventeen’s producer, Woozi’s the one taking charge of their music; so much of their success from the start is because of his production (not forgetting Hoshi’s choreo, Vernon’s writing, Coups’ leadership, and the overall OT13!) He really takes charge of their musical sound, which has been so important in their rise to stardom and getting CARATs to slip into the diamond life.
Also, remember how I said we’re at the L&R wall? Heng:garae was Seventeen’s most successful comeback to date, and they shattered a ton of their previous records, just like Jihoon’s out here breaking the glass!
OT13 and Forever Diamond
In the last scene, we get a huge OT13 dance with fireworks and the words “Forever Diamond” in the background.
This scene actually made me cry the first time I saw it. The words made me think of that Weverse post that got Hoshi crying: even if one day Seventeen isn’t performing any more, they’ll still have been a part of our lives, and we’ll hear their names and remember that they were a part of our lives that brought us joy. The members have often talked about how much they all mean to each other, and how they hope that their relationship can last forever (see: HTR and also the Going 70 segment of Caratland). They’ve also expressed their hope that we’ll continue to love them for a long time. (dang why the heck am I crying while typing this)
“Forever Diamond” encapsulates the relationship that SEVENTEEN and CARATs have so well: they’re our diamond boys, and we’ve slipped into the diamond life. We’re both each other’s forever diamonds.
To the last say the name, and beyond!

2020.10.20 18:32 WOWPapierkorb Proshop updated their shop to show the ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO w/price

Trying to find any news on the new MB for the 5900x, and stumbled upon this. That's like $500 USD after considering all conversions and markups (thanks to a redditor for correcting below). No rumor of date, but I would expect to match the AMD launch of Nov 5th at this rate.

2020.10.20 18:13 TirionRothir2 "WR2 w/ WR1 upside" Deconstruction

"WR2 w/ WR1 upside" Deconstruction

I've seen in several recent posts or comments describing receivers as a "WR2 with WR1 upside," to which the common frustrated retort is often "just like the other 30" as this description is applied ubiquitously and seemingly without proper analysis. So I chose to do some on my own type of league, which is your standard 12-team PPR. So my conclusions will be based on this context, but tha analysis can be done for leagues of any size.
Here is the table that I made outlining who was a WR1 and a WR2 in each of the first six weeks, and what the points floor was for each tier that particular week.
For example, in week one, a WR1 in a 12-team PPR league would have been one of the 12 receivers who scored 19.6 PPR points or better, and a WR would have been one of the twelve receivers who scored less than 19.6, but at least 15.7 PPR points.
Finally, I noted who was a WR1, WR2, and WR3 by cumulative points scored after 6 weeks.

Some initial observations:

These guys are weekly WR1s more than any other sort of performance:
Name Performance PPG
DeAndre Hopkins Failed to hit the WR1 tier in Weeks 4,6 19.8
Calvin Ridley Failed to hit the WR1 tier in Weeks 3,4 20.2
Adam Thielen* Failed to hit the WR1 tier in Weeks 2,3,6 19.8
* - in a tied number of performances, I defaulted to where the receiver stands on the year.

These guys are WR1s on the year, either because of team injuries, not hitting bye weeks yet, or through consistency, but have put up WR2 or worse performances more weeks than a WR1 performance. They could end up WR1s for the season if they maintain higher-scoring consistency: - DK Metcalf - Tyler Boyd - Amari Cooper - Tyreek Hill
Sometimes when people say "WR2 with WR1 upside", what they mean (confusingly) is that the player sits in the WR2 tier RIGHT NOW, but could end the year as a WR1. If that is the case, I could see that these players fall into that category (for no reason other than my gut): - Tyler Lockett - Chase Claypool - Tyler Boyd

But what I think people really mean when they say "WR2 with WR1 upside" is "This player will put up a WR2 performance most weeks OR sits in the WR2 tier right now, but will put up a WR1 performance some weeks". Instead of blindly listening, I'd like to see what the numbers say those players are.
That being said, in a 12-team PPR league, the following are OBJECTIVELY weekly WR2s (15-19 point average) with occasional WR1 (20+) weekly performances (at least 4 out of 6 games):
Name Performance PPG
Robby Anderson** 1 WR1 game in week 1; 4 WR2+ games 17.2
DK Metcalf*** 2 WR1 games in weeks 2,5; 4 WR2+ games 19.9
Will Fuller IV 2 WR1 games in weeks 4,6; 4 WR2+ games 16.3
Tyreek Hill*** 2 WR1 games in weeks 2,3; 4 WR2+ games 16.5
Stefon Diggs*** 1 WR1 game in week 2; 4 WR2+ games 19.3
Amari Cooper 2 WR1 games in weeks 4,6; 4 WR2+ games 18.3
Accounting for byes/injuries, the following probably belong in this category as well:
Name Performance PPG
Jamison Crowder 2 WR1 games in weeks 1,5; 3 WR2+ games 19.8
Keenan Allen 1 WR1 game in week 3; 3 WR2+ games 15.9
while not objectively weekly WR2s, these players also have half their games in the WR2+ category on the year:
Name Performance PPG
Tyler Boyd 2 WR1 games in weeks 2,3; 3 WR2+ games 14.6
CeeDee Lamb 1 WR1 game in week 4; 3 WR2+ games 16.5
Allen Robinson II 2 WR1 games in weeks 3,4; 3 WR2+ games 16.6
Robert Woods 1 WR1 game in week 3; 3 WR2+ games 15.3
Keelan Cole, Sr. 1 WR1 game in week 6, 3 WR2+ games 13.6
Mike Evans 2 WR1 games in weeks 2,4; 3 WR2+ games 14.5
Chase Claypool 2 WR1 games in week 5; 3 WR2+ games 17.2
Terry McLaurin 2 WR1 games in weeks 2,4; 3 WR2+ games 15.2
and the following are OBJECTIVELY year-to-date WR2s (top 24 PPR) with occasional WR1 (top 12 PPR) weekly performances:
However, with regard to consistency, the following players have shown flashes of WR1 brilliance, but their floors are equally bad, and I'd call them more boom/bust WR1 or WR2s, which is different from a consistent WR2 with WR1 upside:
Name Performance PPG
Odell Beckham, Jr 1 WR1 game in week 4; 2 WR2+ games 14.5
Tyler Lockett*** 2 WR1 games in weeks 2,3; 2 WR2+ games 17.6
Julio Jones*** 2 WR1 games in weeks 2,6; 2 WR2+ games 17.5
Justin Jefferson*** 2 WR1 games in weeks 4,6; 2 WR2+ games 17.0
Russel Gage 1 WR1 game in week 1; 2 WR2+ games 10.0
Darius Slayton 2 WR1 games in weeks 1,5; 2 WR2+ games 13.6

DeVante Parker 1 WR1 game in week 4; 2 WR2+ games 12.9
Brandin Cooks 2 WR1 games in weeks 5,6; 2 WR2+ games 12.6
DJ Moore 1 WR1 game in week 2; 2 WR2+ games 13.4
Adam Humphries 1 WR1 game in week 6; 2 WR2+ games 13.3
** - Robby is the definition of WR2 with WR1 upside
*** - These receivers will probably end the season as WR1s with WR2 downside

Interestingly, no player was a WR2+ in at least three weeks without also being a WR1 in at least one of them, EXCEPT: Kenny Golladay. He is the only clear-cut WR2 I could find.
Every other WR1 performance in the past 6 weeks was a one-hit-wonder in the WR2+ category, and I considered a one-time boom game. I'm certain (well, at least hopeful) that among those in that category, JuJu, Chark, and maybe Gallup will return in future weeks, though.

TL;DR:

The phrase "WR2 with WR1 upside" is largely meaningless without additional context regarding the league type, league size, and weekly or final assessment you are making.
Additionally, there is no guy who is JUST a WR2 right now, except Golladay. Every other WR2 has WR1 upside (and it's likely Golladay does and just hasn't shown it yet), or he is a WR3 with WR2 upside and you're being optimistic about what tier he sits in.
I'd argue that as we extrapolate through the remaining weeks, we still won't find that kind of consistency because football is a volatile game. That said, a few guys who I think might remain in the WR2 tier of weekly performances going forward and still have 2-3 WR1 games remaining in them:
I think everyone else either rises or falls to their appropriate tier (and has a fair number of games with that tier's performance) before season's end.

Some final notes:

Edit: For a fantastic follow-up to all of this data with next-level analysis that does not depend on this small sample size, check out CoopThereItIs 's comment: https://www.reddit.com/fantasyfootball/comments/jesorwr2_w_wr1_upside_deconstruction/g9gfh6c?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Edit2: Thank you, kind strangers, for the awards! It feels good to have hard work appreciated!

2020.10.19 23:01 Nameless_Archon Thirty-Eight Days of Dwarf: Day 19 (Extra Life 2020!) 7pm EDT!

(Embark on the middle of a frozen pond? CAN DO!)
(Also, wtf is Reggie Watts, and why does Twitch's algo think I'm using his audio?)
----------------------------------------Who's this guy?----------------------------------------
Hey guys!
I'm Nameless_Archon, and I provide tutorials on how to play Dwarf Fortress every year (health permitting) while I try to raise money for sick kids.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What in the name of the glowing pits is this about?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is time to return to our roots, and so we shall: Thirty. Eight. Days. Of. Dwarf.
Starting on 10/1 and proceeding through the Extra Life 2019 Game Day event on 11/7, I'm going to stream and teach what little I know.
Dwarves. Every. Single. Day.
----------------------------------------But why?----------------------------------------
I like to do things when there's more than one reason to do them:
----------------------------------------So how's this going to work?----------------------------------------
We've started out like I usually do - streaming a basic, sustainable fortress.
----------------------------------------So what's in it for viewers?----------------------------------------
Well, aside from helping to support my local children's hospital (good vibes, ho!) I'll be pushing out tutorial game(s) live on stream as part of the event.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wait....Thirty days of tutorials for Dwarf Fortress as part of a charity drive?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thirty-eight days, actually.
---------------------------------------- New and Uncertain Players: ----------------------------------------
We'll be putting the newest version of the starter pack and Dwarf Fortress through its paces as we (attempt to) start a new tutorial series for v 0.47.04.
---------------------------------------- More advanced players: ----------------------------------------
On that note, experienced players who want to follow along are certainly welcome (and often manage to teach me a thing or two, directly or not) but the main thrust of the stream will be to help new players get over the introductory hump to start playing at a deeper level, so you may find yourself paying less attention to the pace of the stream and more attention to your fellow audience members. I do love having a few veterans show up, though, because my fortress designs always get better when I'm shown a method I've never used!
----------------------------------------Parting Words---------------------------------------
Please don't go. The children need you.
Please donate if you are able.
On behalf of Riley and Extra Life: Thank you, in advance, for your generosity!

  1. Pre-Broadcast: Completed. You're reading it. You could have read it before this, but I'm lazy and I'm blaming the Automod, since that was the real reason one time a few years ago. Don't tell anyone.
  2. Thirty-Eight Days of Dwarf: This is tonight from 7pm-10pm EDT! Within 14 days, the VOD will still be up at Twitch (-link pending-) but after that, you'll need to wait for a Youtube upload, which may take some time.
  3. Day 19 Youtube Upload ( -link pending- ) is pending broadcast completion!
Special thanks to this year's donators!

2020.10.19 22:17 MusicEdTech Request - Can I FILTER a UNIQUE Output by a Given Date Within Specific Start and End Times?

Hello! I'm a music educator teaching through Zoom. It brings many challenges, one of which is the constant babysitting of participants panel for attendance. Students are considered "present" even if they logged-in for 1 second at any time within the meeting. I knew my Zoom usage reports and Google Sheets would help me keep my sanity and make this easy.
When students log-in, they leave an entry in the Zoom report (name, email, date & time in/out and total minutes). When they have internet troubles, they pop in and out many times, creating multiple logs within in the report. To simplify things, I've been using =SORT(UNIQUE(FILTER to list unique names from a given date. This has been working very well, but I have to do it for each class and meeting.
The trouble is I have so many meetings for classes, clubs, parent meetings, department meetings, etc., each with their own sheet within the worksheet. It becomes quite tedious. The Zoom reports all use the same columns and info. Could I create one master list of all my reports, then filter this by date from specific start and end times? Could this effectively create my separated attendances for each class, club, etc. for each day?
I've created a spreadsheet (replacing student names and emails with Yankees hall of famers and jersey #s) to show what I've been able to do and what I'd like to do.
Thanks again, Reddit!
EDIT: I appreciate the creative suggestions, however I’m specifically trying to solve this problem of filtering a mass list first by giving date, then again by a window of time set by two cells, start time and end time. Zoom reports look like this (not my video), which I copy and paste into the main sheet.

2020.10.19 10:27 malte2505 Need some help with specs

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Extra info or particulars: Would be nice if the motherboard has 6+ USB ports (where at least 2 of them are USB 3.0), and has enough fan headers for the fans. I want a 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD for Windows & programs, a SATA SSD for games, and an HDD for storage. I would prefer the AIO being a 360mm one unless it's hard to find a good case with room at the top for that/it's crazy expensive. If it's not possible, then a 240m will do. The sleeved cables must work with the power supply that I have attached at the link below.
I have already found some of the parts for my build, which you can see here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XW7JVc.
Just message me if you need anything else from me, and I will be happy to respond.

2020.10.19 06:19 cMeeber AITA for calling my friend’s BF a liar?

My friend’s been dating this guy for almost a year. All of our friend group think he’s super obnoxious. He has like a big “tough guy” thing going on...like he’ll just casually mention some guy “he had to beat up” often. His stories are always some kinda hero a mom & pop store, so he stopped them and they were sooo thankful. One time some guys were starting to yell at each other on the street while we were waiting in line at a bar and this dude CRACKS HIS NECK like he was prepping to go break it up...ofc he didn’t. Stuff like that. He’s pretty tall and large frame. Not muscular tho, just large.
One of the first times she brought him around was last NYE. Someone offers him a drink. He says he doesn’t drink...fine, cool, no one asks why...cuz we’re decent adults. He says that he “can’t get drunk even if he tried”...and everyone left it at. Later as ppl are getting tipsy, he’s is like:” yep, my body just wont allow me to let loose like that. I always gotta be aware. I’ve tried drinking so much so I could just cut loose like you two, but I just can’t get drunk” and he’s smirking.
A few days Im asking my friend what that was all about and she’s like, yep alcohol has no affect on him. And was acting all proud of him? I asked if that was some kind of disorder or metabolic thing...and she shrugged and said it was prob cuz he was so big. Dude, he’s not that big! Like 6’3 probably.
Anyways, today we had a zoom meeting with all the friends. My friend and her BF just moved in together so he was in her video feed too. We’re all showing each other what drink we have. One friend says he has some crazy alcoholic beer at of like 12% or something. And her bf just snorts and declares “I drank a whole bottle of vodka once and didn’t feel a thing.” We all kinda chuckle and are like sure buddy.
After the zoom call she messages the group chat telling us we were all rude and that we on have a problem with his “classic masculinity”. Yeah. So ensues this whole discussion of how him trying to flex on everyone all the time and acting like such a bad ass isn’t “classic masculinity” but just being a dbag. And then I said I didn’t believe any of it anyways. And she got super pissed and said we were “pussies”. Then I straight up called her BF a liar about not being able to get drunk anyways and said there was no way he drank a whole bottle Of vodka. She said we were all jealous and removed herself from the group chat.
Anyways, I feel like he blatantly makes the “I physically can’t get drunk” claim in regards to how tough he is...which is his entire identity. But like, now I’md thinking maybe some ppl can’t get drunk even when they try? I dk. I don’t feel bad for complaint about him when he just makes everyone uncomfortable all the time and is really abrasive...but maybe I shouldn’t have called him a liar? AITA?

2020.10.18 16:50 blancafrompose my sisters boyfriend is 15 and she’s 13. i feel like that seems a bit weird, what should i do??

i don’t wanna get too nosy like that, but i really don’t think it’s okay for a sophomore to be dating a 7th grader... like, she barely even hit puberty and he already sounds and looks 18. as her older sister i feel like i should do something about it, but idk if thats an asshole move, and i really don’t wanna make her unhappy. do y’all think it’s wrong to date someone so much more mature than you, whether or not it’s legal? should i do something about it, or should i just mind my own business? please no negative comments, i genuinely dk what to do bout this.

---------------------------------------- New and Uncertain Players: ----------------------------------------
We'll be putting the newest version of the starter pack and Dwarf Fortress through its paces as we (attempt to) start a new tutorial series for v 0.47.04.

After lurking around here for ages I finally got the courage and jumped in the deep end. First proper rep going through a TD from here and I'd like for you guys to chime in with your experience.Personally I think it looks great, buuuut I'm pretty sure my excitement would be able to get in the way of proper QC on my behalf. You know how it is.

2020.10.18 00:49 Nameless_Archon Thirty-Eight Days of Dwarf: Day 17 (Extra Life 2020!) 7pm EDT!

(SO... MANY... SIEGES... BUT STILL NO WORKSHOPS... :( :( )
----------------------------------------Who's this guy?----------------------------------------
Hey guys!
it's been a year or better since I really was able to stream for any length of time. Did you miss me? I know I have been missing me. I'm Nameless_Archon, and I provide tutorials on how to play Dwarf Fortress every year (health permitting) while I try to raise money for sick kids.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What in the name of the glowing pits is this about?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is time to return to our roots, and so we shall: Thirty. Eight. Days. Of. Dwarf.
Starting on 10/1 and proceeding through the Extra Life 2019 Game Day event on 11/7, I'm going to stream and teach what little I know.
Dwarves. Every. Single. Day.
----------------------------------------But why?----------------------------------------
I like to do things when there's more than one reason to do them:
----------------------------------------So how's this going to work?----------------------------------------
We've started out like I usually do - streaming a basic, sustainable fortress.
----------------------------------------So what's in it for viewers?----------------------------------------
Well, aside from helping to support my local children's hospital (good vibes, ho!) I'll be pushing out tutorial game(s) live on stream as part of the event.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wait....Thirty days of tutorials for Dwarf Fortress as part of a charity drive?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thirty-eight days, actually. It was the wife's idea - she suggested that you folks might like to get a newer version of my original tutorial, and that this might be a good avenue to combine hardcore Dwarf Fortress fanatics, who are already a generous and supporting community, with a charitable cause to support.
